Too Much Punjabi! Too Much Deewana! (Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 – Music Review)

Yamla, Pagla and Deewana are back again! Multiple composers which were there last year are replaced this time by the duo brothers Sharib Sabri and Toshi Sabri who are famous for their Maahi track of Raaz 2. Since the movie is on Sardars and all songs should be Punjabi, doesn’t mean it should have less variety. In R&B music, one can explore a lot of varieties but here Sharib-Toshi presented a limited-to-the-genre soundtrack.

Music: Sharib-Toshi;  Lyrics: Kumaar;  Music Label: YRF Music

1. Yamla Pagla Deewana / Sadi Daru Da Pani – Singers: Sukhwinder Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Rahul Seth, Sanchita Bhattacharya / Toshi Sabri, Sanchita Bhattacharya, Rahul Seth

This title track has a feel good factor as the composition is made in a creative way. The hook line is a beautiful fusion. ‘”Ye loote Saara Zamana” has a western touch and “Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana” has an essence of Classical music. Shankar Mahadevan is at his best as his vocals suit the song so much. Sukhwinder’s vocals doesn’t sound that effective. Saregamapa Lil Champs Contestant Sanchita has sung her part quite well. Her vocals are sexy and went well with the song. The arrangements are nice. Lyrics are decent.  The other version in which Shankar and Sikhwinder is replaced by Toshi is an average attempt. Definitely not better than the former must be because of Shankar Mahadevan’s vocals. Overall, it’s a nice package!

2. Changli Hai Changli Hai – Singers: Mika Singh, Shreya Ghoshal

A typical Bollywood desi dance track in which Nagada is played efficiently. Mika is good. Shreya is good. Composition lacks a good tune. Lyrics are not at all worth mentioning. Arrangements are awful.

3. Suit Tera Laal Rang Da – Singers: Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan

Starting with Dholak and a Sangeet atmosphere, when Sonu starts softly it surely amazes then and there. The tune is quite catchy and peasant. The line which connects Mukhra with the hook line, is worth mention. Sonu Nigam has sung it amazingly with his soft and powerful vocals and Sunidhi has given a nice support to the song. The arrangements are well made. The Lyrics are good. It is definitely the “WELCOME” song.

4. Main Taan Aidaan Hi Nachna – Singers: Diljit Dosanjh, Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Karan Deol, Sachin Gupta

A damn uninteresting song starting with the typical Punjabi instrument Tumbi, it takes you nowhere and you soon would give up. The only interesting thing is the hook line. It offers a little enthusiasm but fails to make the song impressionable. Th arrangements are bad. The lyrics are even worse. Except the hook line, the composition sucks.

5. Jatt Yamla Pagla Ho Gaya / Jatt Yamla Pagla Ho Gaya (Version): Singers: Mika Singh, Suzanne Dmello / Toshi Sabri, Suzanne Dmello

This one is the exactly the opposite of the former. Except the hook line, the whole songs is quite good and enjoyable. The techno beats are nice and the arrangements are good. The lyrics are well written by Kumaar. Mika has sung it well as usual. But at times, you would feel toshi’s singing more effective and engaging. In both the versions, everything is same just the vocals are different.

Yampa Pagla Deewana 2 is an average soundtrack. There’s not much fun listening to its songs as all the songs have the same flavor and the album is not versatile at all. A shaky attempt by the duo Sharib-Toshi as they were given the task of making a Punjabi soundtrack but they didn’t realize to make variations in compositions. A one time listen.

The Final Verdict: NOT A PROBLEM
