Get On the Train Baby! (Chennai Express – Music Review)

Rohit Shetty‘s much-awaited entertainer Chennai Express boasts of a soothing bouquet of typical Bollywood numbers and some peppy tracks with exceptional mixing. The music album has eight tracks, including a mashup.

1. One Two Three Four – Singers: Vishal Dadlani, Hamsika Iyer;  Music: Vishal-Shekhar;  Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

The album rightly sets the pace with “One two three four”! This one surely has the potential to become a hit dance number. With Vishal Dadlani andHamsika Iyer taking the lead, the tapori-style track is catchy, peppy and energy-packed. You’ll go ‘hitchik hitchik’ after this one!

 

2. Titli – Singers: Chinmaye, Gopi Sunder;  Music: Vishal-Shekhar;

“Titli”, the second track, lives up to the beauty of its name. Sung by Chinmayi Sripaada and Gopi Sunder, the track, backed by soothing music, is typically romantic by Bollywood standards. Its rhythm grows on you. This is the WELCOME song.

 

3. Tera Rastaa Chhodun Na – Singers: Amitabh Bhattacharya, Anusha Mani

This is a feel good song from Chennai Express. This song was penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. It has the right combination of melody and rhythm. Voiced by Anusha mani this song from Chennai Express will definitely not fail you.

 

4. Kashmir Main, Tu Kanyakumari – Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh, Neeti Mohan

This song with an unusual title written by Amitabh Bhattacharyadepicts the vast difference of the lead characters, essayed by Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, in the film. Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh and Neeti Mohan have made this track pleasant for the ears. Falling under no particular genre this song leaves the listener happy.

 

5. Ready Steady Po – Singers: Brodha V, Smokey, Enkore, Natalie Di Luccio, Vishal Dadlani

This rap song has attained a new level amidst Bollywood rap songs. This interesting number is sung by an ensemble of Brodha V., Natalie Di’luccio, Smokey, Enkore and Vishal Dadlani. A hip-hop touch to the song makes it classy and catchy. This track of Chennai Express is sure to bring success to the album.

 

6. Chennai Express – Singers: S.P. Balasubramaniam, Jonita Gandhi

Chennai Express – the title track is crooned in the melodious voice of southern singer SP Balasubramaniam. He comes back to Bollywood with this one after a long time. With edgy and peppy music this title track gives you the enthusiastic feeling you need.

 

I don’t know, Vishal-Shekhar seems pretty handicapped in Chennai Express, the album doesn’t meet the mammoth sized expectations. While the ‘hits-expected’ dance tracks fail miserably(barring only the title track) the saving grace comes in the form of the two melodies. The songs may climb up the charts, thanks to SRK’s stardom and the immense promotions given to the film, but the music definitely lacks professionalism and quality.
