Decent!! (Hero – Music Review)

Nikhil Advani has come up with a remake of a 1983 film Hero which had Jackie Shroff in the lead role. Here, the lead actors are the two debutantes, Sooraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi and Athiya Shetty, daughter of Suniel Shetty. The music has been given by composers who are in their top form these days, Sachin-Jigar, Amaal Mallik, Meet Bros Anjjan along with Jassi Katyal.

1. Main Hoon Hero Tera (Salman Khan Version) / Main Hoon Hero Tera (Armaan Malik Version) – Singer: Salman Khan / Armaan Malik;  Music: Amaal Mallik;  Lyrics: Kumaar – On a lyrics that is filled with fantastical romance with a song title that sounds something animated, unreal, Amaal has brought out a simplistic tune with breezy arrangements having minimal but effective beats and a superb Violin orchestration. An excellent utilization of Salman’s vocals has been done as his voice is sounding great and well suited for the track. Armaan’s version is obviously technically better. A romantic fantasy.

2. Yadaan Teriyaan (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan) / Yadaan Teriyaan – Singer: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan / Dev Negi, Shipra Goyal;  Music: Jassi Katyal;  Lyrics: Kumaar – This is quite a predictable composition, something that you must have heard before in a sad Punjabi song. Kumaar is an expert when it comes to songs like these. The use of Flute and Sarangi does create impact on the otherwise ordinary tune. Among the two, Rahat’s version stands out as his vocals are best suited in Punjabi romantic numbers. The duet version fails to create much impact. A decent composition with impressive arrangements.

3. Dance Ke Legend – Singers: Meet Bros Anjjan, Bhoomi Trivedi, Sunaina Singh;  Music: Meet Bros Anjjan;  Lyrics: Kumaar – I would applaud Kumaar for fitting apt lines in such an ordinary composition having such a weak tune and not much stuff in arrangements. Bhoomi quite justifies her role as there’s not much scope of singing here. The second interlude consisting of those Trumpet sounds is good though. They could have made something catchier and quirkier.

4. Khoya Khoya – Singers: Mohit Chauhan, Priya Saraiya, Arpita Chakraborty, Tanishkaa;  Music: Sachin-Jigar;  Lyrics: Niranjan Iyengar – Apart from a catchy hook line, it’s quite an unusual composition, something that sounds pleasing but would take time to grow. Mohit Chauhan impeccably handles the song and Priya’s breezy vocals aptly support him. The arrangements are really impressive with Flute being primarily used. Unusual yet pleasing!

5. O Khuda – Singers: Amaal Mallik, Palak Muchhal;  Music: Amaal Mallik;  Lyrics: Kumaar – I don’t remember when was the last time I got highly impressed with a song having an extremely simple tune. Amaal hasn’t tried to create any kind of complication or gone for some experiment. He has just kept it sweet and simple yet the tune and atmosphere it has created has a mesmerizing effect. Kumaar has also kept the lyrics simple enough to touch every heart. Amaal has finally tried his hands on singing also and he has done a brilliant job. Worth listening! #WelcomeSong

6. Jab We Met – Singers: Rahul Pandey, Shalmali Kholgade, Divya Kumar, Jigar Saraiya;  Music: Sachin-Jigar;  Lyrics: Niranjan Iyengar – It’s a fun song having a funnily light situation and what Sachin-Jigar have done is not even half of what they are capable of. They could have blasted something extraordinary but didn’t seem to be in the mood of doing that. Except some good lines in the lyrics, everything so ordinary that you don’t want to feel it to be a Sachin-Jigar song. They disappoint after a very long time.

Among others, Amaal Mallik highly impresses and easily dominates this soundtrack with his simple yet impacting compositions.

The Final Verdict:  OKAY

The Verdict Order:  DISAGREE < NOT A PROBLEM < OKAY < POSSIBLE < AGREE
