A dull production!! (Calendar Girls – Music Review)

Madhur Bhandarkar is back again with a similar kind of sensuous film social issue. His attempt of a romantic comedy had miserably failed which gave birth to Heroine and now Calendar Girls. Unlike Fashion and Heroine, Salim-Sulaiman are not there even after delivering excellent soundtracks in both, one wonders why. The responsibility of music has been given to a younger lot, Meet Bros Anjjan and Amaal Mallik.

1. Awesome Mora Mahiya – Singers: Khushboo Grewal, Meet Bros Anjjan;  Music: Meet Bros Anjjan – It is indeed a catchy number but definitely not a lovable one. Composers have attempted to keep it engaging but on that account, they fail miserably. It sounds like just any other party song that you easily ignore and walk away. Khushboo’s singing seems too much forced making it sounding unauthentic. And anyway, after the mukhda, the song gets too boring!

2. We Will Rock The World – Singers: Neha Kakkar, Meet Bros Anjjan; Additional Vocals: Khushboo Grewal;  Music: Meet Bros Anjjan – Now, this is even more dull, more boring. The good thing is that it has a different sound texture than most of the Meet Bros Anjjan songs have. Antara has been composed well but the hook line is an utter failure. Neha Kakkar too fails to give her spark to this track. A slightly different attempt though not an impressive one.

3. Khwaishein (Rock Version) / Khwaishein (Film Version) – Singers: Arijit Singh, Armaan Malik / Armaan Malik;  Music: Amaal Mallik – This reminds me of Khwaishein from Heroine which was a gem by Salim-Sulaiman and Amitabh Bhattacharya. This, in particular, is a real good attempt by Amaal of creating Bhatt-sounding composition. Film version is basically the unplugged version which sounds really soothing in Armaan’s voice. The Rock version has Arijit singing fabulously but making the composition more Bhatt-like and less Amaal-like. A soulful track indeed! #WelcomeSong

4. Shaadi Wali Night – Singer: Aditi Singh Sharma;  Music: Amaal Mallik – Nothing interesting can be found in this track. Aditi doesn’t seem to be in the right form, Amaal has kept the arrangements too ordinary to gain interest in this extremely ordinary composition to which Kumaar writes the most ordinary lines possible. Disappointing!

In this latest Madhur Bhandarkar film album, Salim-Sulaiman’s melodies are badly missed!

The Final Verdict: NOT A PROBLEM
