Musical Sameekshaa Awards 2013 – Nominees

This is an auspicious day for my blog as today I am going to announce the nominations for the first ever Musical Sameekshaa Awards. I started this blog on 20th November 2012 with a Single from Race 2, Party On My Mind. The first album I reviewed was Mumbai Mirror. As I moved forward, I found an immense interest in writing music reviews. Specially the albums which got the verdict AGREE, I felt blessed to review them; in other words, writing about them and decorating the words with beautiful adjectives that could help them getting more praise.

In 2012, we witnessed a year which was wonderful for cinema that extracted some of the finest movies in the history of Indian Cinema. This year, 2013, had been an excellent year for music. This year, right from the starting, the level of competition was sky high. Now, when we reach the end of the year, it is highly difficult to select one composer or one album as the best which is unlike the last year, where Pritam’s Barfi! was straightaway the winner.

Talking about the quality and quantity of music in 2013, we, the listeners had a great time enjoying every piece of work. In the very first month, Vishal Bharadwaj’s Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola and Pritam’s Race 2 spread their magic and that was a kind of indication for the enormous musical year that we had. One more artist joined this musical club in the first month, Gajendra Verma who debuted from Table No. 21 with the song Mann Mera being one of biggest hits of 2013. Other young artists included Falak Shabbir who is also a singer and composer. As this multitasking thing was becoming successful, entered Ankit Tiwari with his romantic anthem Sun Raha Hai Na Tu from Aashiqui 2. This year also witnessed the successful multi composer formula through David, Nautanki Saala and the most successful Aashiqui 2. Impressed with it, T Series owner Bhushan Kumar declared that this formula would be applied to every T Series film.

Now coming to the composers. Pritam had had less creative year as compared to 2012. The level which he created with Cocktail and Barfi!, it became too difficult for him to exceed that level yet the composer didn’t at all disappoint. He again proved to be a man of quality and quantity with superhit albums like Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Phata Poster Nikla Hero, R…Rajkumar and the latest Dhoom 3. The year also marked the return of the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to mainstream music. Their comeback was damn successful with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and D Day. The song of both the albums were awesome. Vishal-Shekhar were not up to the mark as Gippi and Chennai Express had average music and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein was their only savior. Amit Trivedi had Lootera and Sanjay Leela Bhansali had Ramleela as their only charm in the year. It was the young duo Sachin-Jigar that was consistent throughout the year with albums like ABCD, Go Goa Gone, Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story, Ramaiya Vastavaiya and Shuddh Desi Romance.

Musical Sameekshaa conducts monthly awards at the end of each month, four Trimester awards at every 3 month set and then the awards for the whole year. Talking about the year awards, there are six nominations from each category of which four of them are winners of Trimester awards and rest of the two are chosen on the basis of their performance. Unlike the Trimester awards, there is voting system which will be having 50% weightage. These awards have been divided into four segments: Technical Awards, Popular Awards, Mainstream Awards and Special Awards. So, without any delay, let’s take a look at the Nominees:

    • didn’t find any nice or incredible technicality in A2 songs… they had something which got connected with the listeners… but selecting it among the best six, sorry I couldn’t do it.. coz there were even better ones than A2…
Irshad Kamil’s lyrics were just normal… it well suited with the movie but didn’t impress individually… he wrote those 2 songs better that A2
Popular awards n special awards r still left.. wait for it…
